Belize

The network of roads in Belize has been continuously increased over the past several years. Today, it is easy to travel around the country with a rental car. This allows you to reach those destinations quickly and without complications that are difficult to reach by public transportation.

For driving in Belize a valid driver’s licence from the country of residence is required. But to avoid discussions with the Police during routine checks it is better to take an international driver's license with you. The traffic regulations generally correspond to the international standard, are however not strictly enforced. In general, there is not much traffic in Belize. When driving outside the city at night, you must expect animals and not illuminated obstacles - drive especially careful.

There are only a few speed limits in Belize. The network of gas stations is rather dense with approximately 50 stations. Unleaded gasoline as well as diesel fuel is available.

Which rental car is the right one?

Not all rental cars are suitable for all routes in Belize. Many roads have been asphalted and are in good condition, but there are also gravel and dirt roads for which we recommend an off-road vehicle. This especially applies for the rainy season from June to November. For this reason, you will find the necessary information concerning road conditions, estimated travel times and distances for every trip on the maps from www.latino-cars.com. If an off-road vehicle is absolutely necessary, this is clearly indicated on the section of the map. Use this information when planning your trip in Latin America.
